Submerged Points

Buffalo Head Point

Thriving Marine Life at a Dramatic Drop-off

Named after the volcanic cliff resembling a water buffalo’s head, this dive site features a submerged point extending into deep ocean waters. A broad, sloping plain begins around 30 meters, attracting schools of trevally, snappers, fusiliers, and triggerfish where the longshore current meets the reef. Hard coral formations flourish, with multiple smaller coral ridges branching from the main wall. The shallow reef flat overflows with marine life, including Gorontalo’s only colony of Black anemonefish. This is an exciting drift dive when conditions allow.

Depth: 2 – 40 meters

Highlights: Dramatic coral walls, schooling fish, vibrant coral reefs, and incredible biodiversity

Conditions: Typical visibility is 20 meters. Currents can be strong, so divers should follow the direction of Miguel’s Diving staff for safe entry and exit points.

Safety Note: Down currents may occur over the submerged point. Divers should monitor depth gauges, stay close to the dive master, and use coral formations for  shelter if needed.

Swirling Steps

Thriving Marine Life at a Dramatic Drop-off

This submerged point is shaped like a series of terraced steps leading into deep blue water. The first step is the reef flat, just a few meters deep. The final step within safe diving limits extends out at 30 meters, before plunging to 40 meters and beyond. The hard coral cover is exceptional, even at depth, marking this as one of Indonesia’s best dive sites for pristine reefs. Currents converge here, creating swirling water movements that attract pelagic marine life.

Depth: 2 – 40 meters

Highlights: Stepped coral formations, large sponges, strong coral growth, and pelagic encounters.

Conditions: Typical visibility is 20 meters, though river outflows can temporarily reduce clarity.

Safety Note: Down currents are possible over the deep point. Divers should follow the dive master’s lead when passing this area.

White Point

Schooling Fish & Spectacular Drop-offs

One of Gorontalo’s most frequently visited dive sites, White Point features vertical coral walls dropping to a submerged sand-covered plateau at 30 meters, scattered with patches of hard coral. The excellent visibility along this deep point makes it ideal for spotting large schools of snappers, Big-eye trevally, and rainbow runners. The reef crest begins at just three meters, offering a mix of hard corals, making for an engaging safety stop before surfacing.

Depth: 2 – 40 meters

Highlights: Dramatic walls, Salvador Dali sponges, giant sea fans, and schooling pelagic fish

Conditions: Visibility is typically 20 meters, though cold upwellings may affect clarity at depth.
