This was our second time in Gorontalo and diving with Miguel’s. Rantje and his team run a very well-organized dive operation and take pride in showing the pristine underwater world to their customers. We appreciate how Miguel’s Diving is an active part of the local community and offering job opportunities to locals.

The diving in Gorontalo is mostly on walls with very healthy hard and soft coral. The big ‘Salvador Dali Sponges’ are unique and a must see. The dive guides are also good at finding small stuff, if you like critters. One of the great things about Miguel’s Diving, is that (some) guides carry an underwater slate, to write down what they are pointing to – such a good idea!

Gorontalo itself is a typical Indonesian town, not offering much in terms of sights and attractions. But it’s definitely worth to come here to dive, especially when combined with a trip to the Togian Islands (an overnight ferry trip away).

When I think of beautiful wall dives, pristine corals to great photographic scene, Gorontalo comes to mind. I dove there way back in 2000 and returned in 2014. I was speechless as the beauty was not only still intact but better. Gorontalo is a combination of awesome dives, fabulous staff of Miguel’s and awesome food. Best dive centre to explore the hidden gem that is Gorontalo.

I was travelling solo, and although they had a group diving at the same time, it was organised beautifully such that I never felt like I got the short end of the stick.

The dives themselves with the most hospitable team were well planned, I was briefed in advance about the dive sites and safety protocols. The guides are very knowledgeable about the local marine life as well.
