Pinnacle

Mirabella Dive Site

Named after Jakarta-based diving supporter Mbak Mira Hassan, Mirabella offers breathtaking pinnacle formations rising from a steep sand and coral slope. Miguel’s Diving starts this pinnacle dive at three large pillars that ascend in a row. Divers pass a dramatic underwater landscape of additional pinnacles and promontories. This site is well-protected from heavy waves, and dives typically conclude over a tall coral pinnacle.

Site Length: 400 meters

Depth: 1 – 40 meters

Highlights: Multiple pinnacles, jawfish, Acropora table coral, dramatic topography

Conditions: Visibility ranges from 10 to 30 meters, influenced by wave action and
longshore currents carrying river water.

Special Note: The reef extends to the surface. After the dive, the captain will pick up divers in blue water.

Sentinels Dive Site

Over a dozen pinnacles of varying heights rise from a gently sloping reef, creating an ever-changing underwater landscape. Some pinnacles are stubby, while others are needle-
like pillars. One pillar, topped with a tangled Octopus sponge, resembles a Rastafarian. Large anemones, along with their resident fish and shrimp, thrive on other pinnacles. The site also
features a coral reef slope, making it one of Gorontalo’s few dive sites where divers can explore a bottom. The mix of coral, sponges, and sand makes for a relaxing shallow dive.

Site Length: 300 meters

Depth: 2 – 35 meters

Highlights: Multiple pinnacles, mixed coral garden

Conditions: Visibility ranges from 10 to 30 meters, depending on wave action and sandy bottom disturbance. Moderate visibility adds an air of mystery, as pinnacles emerge and disappear like silent sentinels guarding the deep.

Special Note: Without a knowledgeable dive master, divers will miss key pinnacles hidden by the shifting visibility.

Sunken Island Dive Site

Discovered by accident, this massive pinnacle rises from a sandy bottom, resembling a submerged island. Its nearshore edge reaches as shallow as 15 meters, while the ocean-facing side plunges below 40 meters. Its flat top at seven meters provides an ideal spot for a safety stop. The mid-section of the pinnacle is forested by dense, fine-branching corals in multiple colors, creating a unique seascape unlike any other in Gorontalo. Gigantic pink Cabbage coral formations approach three meters in diameter. Blue ribbon eels hide among mushroom corals and patches of rubble. Miguel’s Diving typically guides this dive in a spiral to maximize exploration of the sea mount.

Depth: 7 – 20 meters

Highlights: Dense coral forests, schools of chromis, unicornfish, damselfish, fusiliers, ribbon eels

Conditions: Visibility rarely exceeds 15 meters because of the sandy bottom and water movement. Currents attract schooling fish, but large tidal shifts can create sudden down currents. This site should only be dived under optimal conditions.

Special Note: Miguel’s Diving staff live on the water and expertly assess Gorontalo’s changing ocean conditions for safe diving experiences.
